Drama critic

The public expressed its thanks to Jana Doležílková (Aida) and Mario Zhang (Radames) for their enchanting duet from Verdi’s “Aida” by thunderous applause. Both artists, together with Vladimír Chmel, closed the extremely successful “Grande Finale” of the Gut Immling Opera Festival 2009 with the trio from “The Troubadour”. Enthusiastic audience rewarded all soloists and the orchestra and its conductor with lively clapping in the rhythm of The Drinking Song from “La Traviata”.

The public wanted exactly something like that, could be a subtitle. Both the festival choir and the soloists were singing Italian – and it must be said that the choir mastered it excellently. However, they were excelled by Jana Doležílková singing the cruel Lady Macbeth.

The visitors may look forward to excellent singers, among them to Lady Macbeth (Jana Doležílková), “who can sing this snake, beast and monster high and harshly”, as says a review, and to the title hero (Vladimír Chmelo), who “performs everything from sensitive lyricism to virile dramaticism”, “both a feeble man and a leader, such as Shakespeare wanted him to be”.

I was absolutely convinced by the Lady performed by a young Czech soprano Jana Doležílková. She was present in every second and (after the disappearing of vibrato of the first minutes caused probably by stage fright) captivating thanks to her impressive voice.

Other roles in Immling were excellently cast too: Jana Doležílková (Lady Macbeth) will probably not beat decibel records. Nevertheless, she has an immense vocal range that she masters without any effort, including coloraturas.
